A real drama played out in the last round of the Russian Football Championship. ‘Krasnodar’ played with its direct competitor – with ‘Dinamo’. Eduard Spertsyan and his team fulfilled their task, defeating Dynamo 1-0.
But for Krasnodar to become champions, they needed Zenit to draw or lose to Rostov. Everything was perfect for the southerners until the 85th minute of the game. ‘Rostov’ and ‘Zenit’ played to a draw, and ‘Krasnodar’ was the champion in the live table just 5 minutes before the final whistle in both matches.
But in the 85th minute, Rostov goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov made a grave error, letting the goal slip through his hands after Arthur’s shot. As a result, Zenit won 2-1 and became Russian champions for the sixth time in a row.
‘Krasnodar’ – for the first time became the silver medallist of the Russian championship.
‘Dynamo’ took the third place. The Muscovites just needed a draw with Krasnodar to become champions, even a Zenit victory would have been good, but Dynamo failed to do so.
