UEFA President made a statement about the war in Ukraine. And this is a few days before the decision to remove clubs from Russia from European competitions, writes Segodnya.ua.

Aleksander Čeferin believes that Russian sport suffers unjustifiably. The head of European football is very concerned about the sanctions that apply to football players and other athletes in Russia. And he believes that they are not to blame for Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.

“It is important to note that this is not a war against Russian athletes and the Russian people. Although it is not their fight, they suffer the consequences. UEFA will soon decide whether Russian clubs will be able to participate in European competition. It is not easy for us, because all sports decisions were made at the government level. We maintain correct relations with Russia, there was no pressure on us to postpone the final. I don’t like cheap political pressure, I don’t like it when they shout at Gazprom, but still buy its gas. This is hypocrisy,” Čeferin said in an interview with Slovenian Evening.

The Slovenian functionary previously supported the Ukrainian national team. Aleksander Čeferin invited the UAF to hold training camps in his home country of Slovenia.
