Russian Ship in Barents Sea Engulfed in Flames, Ukrainian Official Claims
Russian anti-submarine ship Admiral Levchenko is currently on fire in the Barents Sea due to an engine malfunction, according to Dmytro Pletenchuk, the press chief for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Pletenchuk reported on June 10 that the ship, with hundreds of crew members on board, is facing a “struggle for survival.” The cause of the fire is believed to be Ukraine’s sanctions preventing the Russian Navy from servicing engines manufactured in Mykolaiv. This incident adds to the list of Russian naval ships experiencing fires in the Black Sea, often due to attacks by Ukrainian forces.
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the Ukrainian military has successfully targeted and destroyed a significant portion of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Recent attacks by Ukrainian naval drones have resulted in the destruction of Russian patrol boats. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in military conflicts.
