Russian footwear brand Kari is set to open a plant in Uzbekistan, Uzcharmsanoat association of Uzbekistan said March 25. It will produce up to 10mn pairs of shoes per year.
Founded in 2012 Kari is one of the five largest retail chains in Russia engaged in the footwear trade. The company has over 1,300 retail outlets in more than 300 cities in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Poland and other countries.
“The new enterprise is to be built completely at the expense of foreign direct investment (FDI). More than 1,000 jobs are expected to be created”, Uzcharmsanoat said.
“The guests expressed confidence that they will launch the new plant within one year thanks to the favorable business environment and assistance provided by the state to foreign investors”, it added.
All goods produced at the factory are to be exported. No information was provided on the size of FDI.
