Japanese government urges citizens to avoid travel to Russia | Caliber.Az

The Japanese government has issued a strong advisory urging its citizens to refrain from travelling to Russia, citing heightened concerns over safety.

This announcement follows the recent visit of Japanese MP Muneo Suzuki to Moscow, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

During a press conference, Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Yoshimasa Hayashi emphasized the urgency of the travel advisory. “Due to the fact that Russia is classified as a country with the third level of danger, whatever the purpose, we urge citizens to refuse travelling to Russia,” Hayashi stated.

The warning comes in the wake of Suzuki’s official visit to Russia, where he is expected to meet with officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rosrybolovstvo. Suzuki’s trip aims to address two primary issues: the resumption of seaweed fishing off Signalny Island and the visit to ancestral graves of former Japanese residents in the southern Kuril Islands.
