The United World Wrestling (UWW) reports that wrestlers from other countries will go to the 2024 Olympic Games instead of the excluded Russians.
The number of athletes allowed to participate may be less than the number of earned quota places. In such cases, these quotas will be reallocated to athletes from other NOCs according to the qualification system of the respective IF, reports UWW. Quota redistribution rules:
- Fairness and equality of opportunity:
The quota redistribution process must be fair and provide equal opportunities for all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and athletes.
- Distribution based on sports achievements:
Quotas are redistributed based on the results of competitions and the sports achievements of the athletes. This ensures that the best athletes have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games.
- Continental representation:
The redistribution process takes into account the representation of different continents to ensure the participation of athletes from all regions of the world.
- Host country quotas and universal quotas:
Quotas for the host country of the Olympic Games are taken into account, as well as universal quotas, which can be redistributed among athletes who did not qualify through regular qualifying tournaments.
According to these criteria, wrestlers who performed successfully in qualifying tournaments but did not qualify can receive a quota. At the moment, the following wrestlers have received permission from the IOC:
Freestyle wrestling: Shamil Mamedov (65 kg), Arslan Bagaev (86 kg), Abdulla Kurbanov (125 kg),
Greco-Roman wrestling: Alan Ostaev (60 kg), Magomed Murtazaliev (97 kg).
Let us remind you that Russia has Olympic licenses in each weight category, except for 67 kg in Greco-Roman wrestling.
