Hungary rejects EU plan to phase out Russian energy by 2027 | Caliber.Az

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has criticized the European Union’s plan to stop relying on Russian energy by 2027, calling it an ideological approach that lacks practical sense.

Szijjártó emphasized that Budapest will not follow the EU’s energy policy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Making political commitments in the energy sector simply doesn’t make sense. Such a dogmatic ideological approach is not suitable for us,” Szijjártó stated.

He described the EU’s plan as irrational and disconnected from the principles of economic competitiveness.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán echoed this sentiment in the European Parliament, arguing that Europe’s decision to reduce its dependence on Russian energy has negatively impacted the EU’s GDP growth.
