Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian has said that the government of the People’s Republic of China has no information regarding the deployment of North Korean soldiers to participate in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Lin Jian made these remarks during a press briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
When asked by a South Korean journalist whether Beijing finds the reports of Pyongyang sending troops to support Moscow credible, he simply replied, “China does not have any information.”
The Chinese diplomat reiterated that China maintains a consistent position on the Ukrainian issue and expressed hope for de-escalation and a political resolution to the conflict.
On October 10, Press Secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov dismissed media claims regarding the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the special military operation as another baseless rumour.
On October 19, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin admitted that he could not verify Ukrainian reports about the presence of North Korean troops in the zone of conflict.
The French Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper wrote that rumours of Pyongyang sending military personnel to Russia are implausible and primarily serve Ukraine’s interests, as it seeks to internationalise the conflict.
