In less than two weeks, the Olympic Games in Paris will begin, and the competition is getting more exciting by the day. In many weight categories, there is fierce competition among the strong and highly skilled athletes vying for Olympic medals. One of the most intriguing and highly competitive categories is the under 65 kg weight class.
Many titled, technical and physically strong wrestlers stand out in this weight category:
- Ismail Musukaev (Hungary) – current world and European champion, known for his speed and technicality.
- Vazgen Tevanyan (Armenia) – European champion and world bronze medalist, physically strong, has a high level of technique and character.
- Tumur Ochir Tulga (Mongolia) – two-time Asian vice-champion and world bronze medalist, known for his unusual technique that can defeat any opponent.
- Zane Retherford (USA) – world champion, known for his speed and technique, although previously competed in the weight category up to 70 kg. A change in weight class could affect his results.
- Rahman Amuzad (Iran) – World and Asian champion, has difficult for opponents technique and strong character.
- Ernazar Akmataliev (Kyrgyzstan) – vice-champion of Asia and the world, known for his technique and fighting spirit.
Unfortunately, this list did not include Russian athlete Shamil Mamedov, who could have been the only Russian representative at the Olympic Games, but was injured and announced his refusal to travel to Paris. Shamil was a world bronze medalist.
It is also worth noting that Takuto Otoguro (Japan) and Haji Aliyev (Azerbaijan), finalists at the Tokyo Olympics, did not make this year’s list of top wrestlers. Takuto lost at the qualifying tournament in Japan, not making it to the Olympic team, and Haji Aliyev shows unstable results and is gradually losing his position.
Thus, the upcoming Olympic Games promise to be exciting and full of surprises in the weight category up to 65 kg.
