Nair Tiknizyan was close to joining Zenit

Following several representatives of the Armenian national football team, Nair Tiknizyan was close to changing his club registration. The 25-year-old defender was one step away from joining Zenit St. Petersburg, but eventually stayed at Lokomotiv and begins preparing for the new RPL season.

On the eve of the Russian media revealed the details of the failed transfer of Nair Tiknizyan to Zenit. The reigning RPL champion has agreed on the transfer of the Armenian defender for 8 million euros. At the same time, Lokomotiv could additionally receive striker Ivan Sergeev and midfielder Alexander Kovalenko.

Despite the verbal agreement between the clubs, Nair Tiknizyan refused to move to St. Petersburg and withdrew from negotiations with the St. Petersburg club. The reasons for the refusal were not disclosed, the 25-year-old defender remains at Lokomotiv Moscow. Last season, the representative of the Armenian national football team played 22 matches in the Russian championship, scored six goals and provided three assists.
