South Ossetia considers itself part of the Great Russian world – Gagloev

South Ossetia considers itself part of the Great Russian world; the Republic has the closest interaction in all areas with its strategic partner – the Russian Federation. This was stated by President Alan Gagloev during the meeting with the Chairman of the Board of the Russian Historical Society, Executive Director of the History of the Fatherland Foundation Ruslan Gagkuev.

The meeting took place as part of the opening of the Russian Historical Society representative office in Tskhinval, the press service of the head of state reports.

Alan Gagloev welcomed the guest of the Republic and noted the importance of the ongoing project – the opening of the representative office of the Russian Historical Society.

“This is our common cause, aimed at preserving memory and historical truth. We live in difficult times when they are trying to rewrite history, distort facts and replace values. The people and leadership of South Ossetia will do everything possible to preserve historical memory. You can count on our full support,” the President’s press service quotes him as saying.

The head of state has also added that Ossetians and Russians were fighting together, side by side, for victory on the fields of the Great Patriotic War.

“To date, more than 140 interstate agreements have been signed between our countries. Therefore, I am glad that a representation of South Ossetia is also opening through the Russian Historical Society,” the President has emphasized.

Ruslan Gagkuev expressed gratitude to the head of state and noted that it was very important for him to complete the implementation of this project.

“The founding meeting took place yesterday, and I am confident that the team will become the important part of the Russian Historical Society, which directs all its main efforts to historical education, protecting historical truth and countering the falsification of historical facts,” he said.

At the same time, he has expressed confidence that the South Ossetian historians will be able to develop professionally and gain new skills within the framework of the project.

He has noted the assistance of the Embassy of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation, headed by Znaur Gassiev, in organizational issues related to the opening of the representative office.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged memorable gifts.
